The annual Woodford Cup meeting held at Warrnambool on New Years Eve, Wilde Racing trained a double. Mostrava (pictured) and Wishlor Lass both getting the nod in two close photo finishes.
Mostrava broke her maiden status after a couple of luckless runs this campaign. She is a filly with plenty of upside as she isn’t the furnished product yet. She still does a few things wrong in her races and will be a better horse next preparation. Everything she has done this campaign has been on raw talent. With a large group of connections to watch her on Saturday, the cheer from them all was deafening when Mostrava’s number come up in the frame. Purchased from the Magic Millions, she has always been a filly that has shown promise at home and it was great to see her bring that to the races in her first campaign.
Wishlor Lass needed to take a lot of improvement from her debut win at Warrnambool, tackling a stronger class of race. Take the next step she did. Unlike her debut run, Wishlor Lass stepped a little slow from the barrier. The second favourite Miso set up a big margin in the straight and it looked as though our mare was going to run a gallant second. The final 150m, Wishlor Lass was taking ground off Miso. On the winning post we had no idea if she got the bob in. Much like Mostrava earlier in the day, Wishlor Lass had a large group of connections on course and once again, the roar when her number went in the frame was something else.
Congratulations to the winning connections of both Mostrava and Wishlor Lass.
