Sevillana got a well-deserved win at Ararat on Saturday. There wouldn’t be a more deserving horse of getting a win on the board than this mare. She has been ever so consistent throughout her whole preparation without getting the win.
On Saturday the intention was to never lead. Sevillana jumped almost a length clear, Linda Meech used her initiative and took up the running. Ararat always plays to those who can sit on speed, so it was certainly no disadvantage to take up the leading roll. Linda rated her beautifully out in front. At the 600m, Sevillana looked to lose her action, and the rest of the field caught up to her quickly.
Despite looking like she was going to be beaten several times down the straight, Sevillana picked herself up off the canvas and fended off all challengers to cling on to victory.
From her 23 starts to date, Sevillana has secured 3 wins, 6 seconds and 3 thirds for over $125k in prizemoney for her connections.
Congratulations to the winning owners.
