The team headed to Donald yesterday for their cup day meeting. It was great to be able to end the day with a treble from our six runners which included the Donald Cup.

Sevillana has shown plenty of promise in her early race starts. It was great to get the maiden victory on the board yesterday after only being narrowly defeated at her previous start.
She jumped well and travelled kindly outside the leader. She is a mare that can overdo it at times, so it was great to see her relax so well in the run. At the end of the 1350m she was able to score by a long neck on the line without really knowing how to put the race away. It was a great thrill for breeder Ross Smith who races the 5yo mare with some of his close mates.

Kodiak Bear (pictured) followed up his good debut run at Mortlake with an effortless victory over the 2200m. Given time to find his feet early, Kodiak Bear came with a grinding run down the outside to run over the top and win quiet easily in the end. A lightly raced 4yo gelding by Tosen Stardom, he is still very much learning his craft. He is only going to improve the more racing he does and extra distance shouldn’t pose any issues to him.

Mister Me was on the quick back up from a gallant third in the Ballan Cup last weekend and he was able to take home the Donald Cup with Dean Yendall in the saddle. It was a brave effort by Mister Me who at one stage lead by three lengths on the rest of the field. He got a small breather turning into the straight and allowed the rest of the field to catch up to him. Dean asked for an effort and Mister Me fought hard to hold off the fast finishing Extra Elusive. It was a great effort by the horse to lead at that solid tempo and still be strong at the end of the 1600m. It was a great result to get the feature win for Mister Me’s connections, many were on course to enjoy the celebrations.

Congratulations to the winning connections.
