Starlover and Caliburn were winners on Casterton Cup Day whilst Bombshell Belle travelled to Swan Hill on Sunday for an impressive win in the last on their cup day.
Starlover (pictured) had taken great improvement from her first start at Casterton into her second start at the same track. She was very tough and got the maiden win on the board.
She jumped and travelled on speed before kicking off the bend at the top of the straight. The second horse looked as though it was going to go straight past Starlover but she pinned the ears back and toughed out the finish. What she lacks in size she makes up for in heart as she tries hard.
Caliburn brought up the second win of his career with a bold front running ride by Daniel Moor. He bowled along at a solid gallop which allowed him to travel well and not get over racing.
Similar to Starlover he was able to kick clear off the bend and wasn’t able to be run down in the short straight. Introducing jumping into Caliburns routine seems to be the reason for a return to form for the galloper.
Bombshell Belle was too speedy for them in the 975m at Swan Hill on Sunday. She flew the gates and was able to cross easily from the barrier draw without doing any work. She hugged the rail and scooted clear to win by 2.75 lengths. She also showed her versatility by winning on firmer going after winning on softer going first up this preparation. Bombshell Belle is a mare that has her fair share of niggles, with our facilities we hope we can continue to manage her and she will find herself in town over the summer in the sprint series at Moonee Valley.
Congratulations to the winning connections over the weekend.
