Lucky start number three seen Star Of Tavistock break through for his maiden victory at Warrnambool on Tuesday.
The lightly raced gelding has tested the patience of the owners and staff but they were rewarded with a tough win. Although he is a 4yo, Star of Tavistock is extremely immature.
You could see him throughout the run, ears flickering and he wasn’t concentrating on the job at hand. The race started to heat up a long way from home but that probably played into the hands of Start Of Tavistock. He was headed by the race favourite in the straight but he grounded away to fight back and win by 3/4’s of a length.
With three runs under his belt plus a hurdle trial, Star of Tavistock is at peak fitness. He is enjoying mixing his day to day training with jumping and he will stay all day. If Star Of Tavistock can continue to refine his manners and mature, there are plenty of staying races ahead for him.
Congratulations to the winning connections.
