Promising 3yo galloper Shuriken notched up his second career victory from as little as three starts in the Vobis Gold Eureka Stockade at Ballarat on Saturday.
In testing conditions Shuriken defeated stable mate Street Delight by 3/4’s of a length lapping up every bit of the 1400m.
The rich Vobis Gold race had a prize-money pool of $175k making Shuriken’s purchase price of $15k look like a bargain buy. In only three starts Shuriken has brought his winnings to $144,000 for his connections. It has been a dream start for Matt Sellick the founder of Toward Reward Thoroughbreds. Purchasing Shuriken as a weanling, the large ownership group have shown patience getting Shuriken to the track.

After winning his maiden impressively at Casterton, Shuriken then went to Flemington at stakes level where his inexperience didn’t allow us to see his full potential. With one on eye on the Sandown Guinneas and this race, the team pulled the right rein. With what looks to be a bright future ahead, time in the paddock now will ensure Shuriken comes back as a late 3yo to hopefully tackle a nice race in the Autumn.

Congratulations to the winning connections.
