It was a busy day at the home track yesterday with eight runners on the six race card.
We saddled up Danzadoozie and Britannicus in race three. Both jumpers getting the miles in their legs in preparation for a jumps campaign.
Britannicus was the more favoured of our two runners and was in form after a solid performance at Warrnambool only eight days earlier. He was rated beautifully in front but Josh Cartwright. He gave a good kick at the top of the straight and looked home. The second horse Looking Around was closing fast but Britannicus had a big enough margin to hold on for the win. It was a great result to sneak a win on the flat for his owners before heading to the jumps later this year. Danzadoozie showed he was on track, rounding off his race well after missing the start and getting a check as he was building momentum.
Race four seen Havastar and Rushin Rhonda line up against each other. Although Rushin Rhonda was more favoured in the betting it was Havastar who careered away for an impressive victory. He was only 0.9 seconds outside the track record. Havastar was given a lovely ride by apprentice Laura Lafferty and it was great to get the win for his patient owners. Havastar has had his fair share of issues but when he is right he certainly has the ability. Rushin Rhonda worked home for third and she will be better suited over a little more ground next start.
After the busy day it was great to be able to bring home a double.
Congratulations to the winning connections.
