Navy King (pictured) and Thurmond were both winners at their respective starts over the weekend.

Navy King was back at Moonee Valley where he ran well two weeks earlier. Adopting similar tactics, Daniel Stackhouse allowed Navy King to bowl along to the front and set a steady tempo. Navy King doesn’t have a big change up speed, but he can sustain a gallop and get his opposition out of their comfort zone. Daniel was able to start increasing the speed and you could see the horses behind were off the bit and chasing. When challenged in the straight, Navy King was able to rally and kick on to win by half a length. It was great to see Navy King back in the winners’ stall as he was building nicely towards such a result.

Thurmond made the long trip to Swan Hill worth the effort as he was an easy winner of the 2400m race. Linda Meech got him into a lovely position throughout and coming into the straight he always looked to be the winner. The margin wasn’t big, but Linda was confident Thurmond had plenty in hand should he have been challenged. It was pleasing to see him make the switch from heavy ground to a firmer track and adapt so well, it seems Thurmond is very versatile in that area. He is putting together a nice little record since joining the stable. With plenty of options coming up over the staying trips, we look forward to seeing Thurmond progress through the grades.

Congratulations to the winning connections.
