The jumping stars of the stable took the honors at Casterton as we trained the winner of three of the four jumps races programmed for the day. Our only defeat came in the second division of the maiden hurdle where Raise Your Sights was gallant in running second.

Field of Lights was the first winner of our treble as he jumped his way to a six length victory, breaking his maiden status over the hurdles. It was a great result for the connections as they have been very patient getting Field Of Lights back to the races and in the winners stall. He suffered a tendon injury back in May 2021 after his hurdling debut. With the jumping season coming to a close, it was great to be able to get the maiden win out of the way. After a season of hurdling under his belt we hope that Field of Lights will come back and contest some of the feature races next season.

Count Zero was as tough as old boots as he held on to win by the bob of the head in the open hurdle. His staying prowess kicked in as he fought off everyone who challenged him to get his nose down right on the line. A big gap between runs, having not started since the Australian hurdle in May and not handling the heavy ground, Count Zero enjoyed the firmer going of the Casterton circuit. His rivals challenged him early and poured the pressure on but Count Zero wouldn’t lie down without a fight. Lightly raced over the hurdles, and tried over steeples, with conditions to suit, there is a feature win not too far away.

Elvison (pictured) what more can we say other than he is the King of Casterton. Those who doubted him being able to win with the 72.5kg were quickly silenced as Elvison put on a spectacle for all those who came to see him in the Twin Rivers Steeplechase. As they do Aaron Kuru and Elvison lead the rest of the field and showed them a clean set of heels to win the feature by 2 lengths. Having started over the Casterton live hedges 7 times for 5 wins, Elvison has made Casterton his own. Whether you are a jumps racing fan or a racing enthusiast, you can’t help but get joy out of watching Elvison.
Can he come back next season and compete and defend his title as the King of Casterton…..my word he can!!

Congratulations to all our winning connections at Casterton on Sunday.
