Lightly raced 4yo gelding Grugnito broke his maiden status at Warrnambool on Thursday.
At only his second start for the stable, Grugnito handled the stronger maiden grade without a worry winning by two lengths with Declan Bates in the saddle. He broke well from the barriers and found himself three wide with cover. Grugnito has a tendency to overdo things in the run but yesterday his racing manners were much better. He settled into a nice rhythm and travelled well for Declan. He rounded off his race well and was always holding second placed Simply Sassy. As Grugnito continues to improve his race manners, we will be able to step him out in trip where we are sure he will be even more effective.
