Fiorowngood shed his maiden tag at Casterton on Sunday, producing a decisive victory over the 2000m with Jack Hill in the saddle.
It has been a patient preparation getting the gelding out to a suitable trip as he learned his race craft, but the early groundwork paid dividends.
A special thank you goes to his ownership group at Grand Syndicates, who committed to the long rehabilitation of a tendon injury earlier in his career. In hindsight, the setback may well prove a blessing, giving Fiorowngood the time he needed to mature, strengthen, and properly furnish into the horse we are now seeing on race day.
The firmer tracks appear to be very much to his liking, and with spring and summer approaching — combined with his ability to stay — there is every reason to think he can continue progressing through the grades. Sunday’s win was an encouraging step forward, and the stable is optimistic there is more improvement to come.
