Developing mare Dashing Duchess returned to the races with an impressive victory at Ballarat on Sunday.

In a heat of the Country Mile Series, where the first three across the line receive automatic entry into the $250k final on All Star Mile day, it wasn’t expected that Dashing Duchess would be winning.
Twice a winner at 2000m, we thought the 1600m first up might be a bit short of her best. With a strongly ran race, Dashing Duchess made light work of the short trip scoring an impressive win.
She had little luck in the run, she was posted wide but out of trouble and in a good rhythm. Damien Lane mentioned post race that she never quickened but always maintained a strong gallop to the line.

Raced in similar ownership to Tralee Rose, this mare has a long way to go before she is reaching her accolades but Dashing Duchess couldn’t be more impressive in what she has done to date in her short career. Having the five starts, she has three wins and a second to her name, securing over $75k in prize-money for her connections. Whether she fronts up and races for the $250k in the final remains to be seen however the owners have a nice progressive stayer on their hands.

Congratulations to the winning connections.
