Darkbonee delivered a commanding performance at Sandown Lakeside yesterday, taking out the Sportsbet Fixed Odds Exotics Handicap (BM66, 1600m) in style. Under the guidance of Craig Williams, the four-year-old gelding by Palentino out of Lake Sententia proved too strong for his rivals, securing his second win from six starts.
Darkbonee settled just off the pace before hitting the lead in the straight and securing a grinding win. Despite racing wide without cover from the 1100m, he showed grit and determination to hold off Katsumi Orochi and Kokoro. With this breakthrough metropolitan win, Darkbonee has stamped himself as a horse to follow through the summer. His versatility across distances and ability to handle varying track conditions suggest more success isn’t too far away.
It was a great thrill for owner/breeder John Richards who raced the mare Lake Sententia and now is enjoying success on the track with her foals.
Darkbonee looks to be the most talented one to have hit the racetrack thus far.
