Cousins Day gave her huge ownership group plenty to cheer about on Friday, producing a strong staying performance to score at Terang with stable rider Dean Parker in the saddle.
The mare travelled comfortably throughout and, when Dean asked her for an effort, she responded well stretching out late and putting the race away in strong fashion. She has had terrible luck this preparation, it was nice to see her have things go her way and secure her second win of her career.
What makes the win even more special is the remarkable ownership story behind her. Cousins Day is raced by an extraordinary family group of 72 relatives. Each year, they catch up in Noorat at their annual “Cousins Day”, and this is where the name came from for the mare. Their enthusiasm, energy, and collective pride have been a highlight of her journey, and Friday’s win was another moment they were able to celebrate together.
For the team at Wilde Racing, it’s always a privilege to train horses for passionate owners—and few groups embody that spirit quite like this one. Cousins Day continues to reward their loyalty, and we look forward to her next start wherever that maybe.
