Tough stayer Cotton Eye Joe made up from a narrow defeat at Terang last start with a narrow win at Hamilton on Sunday.
Sent out as favourite, Cotton Eye Joe put in a much improved round of jumping and was able to get his maiden hurdle out of the way. His win had great merit, he had to chase the leader the whole way and to his credit Cotton Eye Joe put his head down and fought out the finish. It was great to see that he doesn’t have to lead and should he learn to settle more in his races, it will stand him in good stead going forward.
With the May Carnival only weeks away, there will be a hurdle race for Cotton Eye Joe to front up in and be competitive again.
Congratulations to the winning owners. Your patience has been rewarded over the past 12 months as we set a plan this season to target the jumps season.
