Champagne Sharon was a winner on debut at Camperdown on Saturday. Owned by a large group of 30 plus women, 10 of those were on course to see her cruise to victory by 2.5 lengths.
She jumped quick from the slightly awkward draw, Jarrod Fry rated her beautifully out in front. Champagne Sharon travelled strong throughout but when let off the bridle and asked to quicken, she was green in the run to the line. With race experience under her belt, we can only hope the 3yo filly will improve going into her next start.
Purchased from the Magic Millions Adelaide sales in 2019 in conjunction with McKeever and Pinhook Bloodstock, the filly was a lovely purchase for $110,000. Given she is an “all ladies” syndicate, Champagne Sharon is eligible for any of the women in racing bonuses available through the Magic Millions race series.
With her dam “Off and Laughing” she was nicknamed Sharon around the stables after comedy character Sharon strzelecki from Kath and Kim. With a group of females racing her, it was only fair to assume that there would be plenty of champagne drank on race-day and hence the name “Champagne Sharon” was decided.
Congratulations to all the winning connections.
