New Zealand import Hurry Cane was a winner at his second start over the jumps in Australia at Pakenham on Sunday.
The 10yr old gelding was sent over by his ownership group with the view to running in the Grand Annual on the first Thursday in May. On Sunday, Hurry Cane may have secured his spot in the field with lovely round of jumping, the liking of the heavy track conditions and looked as though he wanted another lap after the 3200m journey.
He made his debut for Wilde Racing at Hamilton a couple of weeks earlier, he was sent out favourite that day and didn’t jump the smaller fences as well as we would have liked. Straight to the steeples and Hurry Cane put on a terrific round of jumping. Having only won a maiden hurdle before arriving in Australia, Hurry Cane needed to show he had the ability to compete in a tough race like the Grand Annual and on Sunday we seen signs he certainly could be a chance in a race like that.
Congratulations to the winning connections – it was a great thrill to get a win over here with Hurry Cane.
