Thurmond kicked off his jumping career in fine style on Sunday at Casterton, producing an encouraging all‑the‑way victory at his first attempt over the hurdles with stable rider Dean Parker in the saddle.
After being a little plain on the flat in recent runs, the gelding looked revitalised by the change of discipline. He jumped neatly throughout, travelled comfortably on the speed, and gave a strong sight from the moment the barriers opened.
It was terrific to see him return to winning form, and Sunday’s performance was a reminder of how jumps racing can rejuvenate horses who have lost their way on the flat. Thurmond has clearly taken to the caper, and the stable is optimistic he can continue to build on this momentum with one last jumps meeting left for the season. He will certainly be a hurdler to follow next year.
Congratulations to the winning connections.
