Field of Lights made a triumphant return to racing on Tuesday at Hamilton, producing a tough performance to score first‑up over the steeples. Now a nine‑year‑old and returning from a spell, it was a tremendous effort by the team at home to have him fit and ready to go.
What made the victory even more satisfying was the journey that led him back to the winner’s stall. Field of Lights has overcome two tendon injuries across his career — setbacks that would have ended the racing days of many horses. Instead, he has returned stronger, sounder, and more seasoned, thanks to the patience of his connections.
With a full season of steeplechasing now behind him, Tuesday’s win suggests he is ready to take the next step. He travelled confidently throughout, jumped cleanly, and never looked like being defeated. As a 9yo it is great to see he still has the zest for racing – particularly the jumping.
All signs point to 2026 being his year, with the Hamilton victory a perfect launching pad for the campaign ahead.
Congratulations to the winning connections.
