Casterton is a track that Wilde Racing love to head to, it is a wonderful spectators course and has a great atmosphere.
Sunday was Casterton Cup Day as well as the Two Rivers Steeplechase both feature races on the nine race card.
Freddy The Eagle was an impressive winner in the second division of the maiden a hurdle. It was a fitting win given that a percentage of his ownership group are locals from Casterton. To get the win on their home track on their big day was a thrill for all involved. Main owner Rick Smith who raced Freddy The Eagle in Darwin identified this horse as a potential jumper. Normally a horse coming from Darwin back to Victoria isn’t the recipe for success but from day one this gelding showed terrific staying prowess. We look forward to the future ahead with Freddy The Eagle both on the flat and over the obstacles.
Darts Daly (pictured) broke his maiden status at start number three. He was terrific on debut and after a freshen up he ran a blinder at the Warrnambool May Carnival. It was great to get the win with Darts Daly after we bred the 3yo gelding along with loyal clients and friends Dallas Ludeman and Peter Daly. To syndicate Darts Daly to a large group of friends and family it was a huge thrill for all involved to get the win on the board. After racing the older siblings out of the mare Crevasse, Darts Daly is the first of the foals we bred to race since we purchased the mare.
Elvison, The King Of Casterton – that pretty much sums him up. His past seven wins have been at Casterton over the live hedges. Three of those have been in the feature Two Rivers Steeplechase worth $100k (’22,’23,’24). At some stage we thought weight would catch up with the now 10yo gelding. After carrying 72.5kg on Sunday to another win, he grows a leg around the unique course and doesn’t look like being defeated. With his regular rider Aaron Kuru in the saddle, the two put on a dashing front running display of perfection to go on and win by 3.5 lengths. It is a great spectacle for any racing lover to witness.
Congratulations to all our winning connections at Casterton on Sunday.
