It was a quick trip up the highway to Terang on Friday where Smiler Marshall and The Mockingbird were winners.
Smiler Marshall(pictured) having his first start after a few little injury setbacks was very impressive on debut. With Damien Thornton in the saddle, he jumped away only fair and travelled well at the tail of the field. Building into the home straight, he looked to have a lot to offer. When asked for an effort he was very green and wayward. His natural ability got him over the line. When the penny drops and Smiler Marshall learns his trade, he looks to have a promising future ahead.
The Mockingbird was our second winner for the day. It was a tough watch, drawing barrier one, she settled back on the rails and needed the breaks to go her way. Dean Yendall was very patient but he weaved his way through the pack to score a narrow victory. She certainly needed every bit of the 1600m. It was great to see her knuckle down and get the job done. The further out in trip she goes the better we think she will be. She looks to be a handy staying mare going forward.
Congratulations to the winning connections.
