Trainer Profile
Bill & Symon Wilde - "Wilde Racing"
Bill Wilde
Bill is a true horseman who has a "hands on" approach, as he has learnt everything by trial and error. With no real exposure to training horses while residing in the UK, Bill’s thirst for knowledge has seen him try and learn every aspect of thoroughbred racing, which even included being a jockey, riding picnic meetings where he once rode a treble at the Colac meet. In ending his jockey career this allowed Bill to pay more attention to what he knows best, training the horses.
Bill Wilde is a qualified dentist who owns, and runs his own practice in Warrnambool. Bill obtained his Trainers Licence in 1982, when he ran the stable as a hobby starting out with no more than one - two horses in work. He recorded his first win for the stable the following year with a horse named Hopkins Point at Penshurst as a 40-1 long shot.
Bill has now overseen the stable for some 26+ years and has proven himself to be one of Victoria’s finest thoroughbred horse trainers who continues to produce outstanding results. His ability to place horses ideally has ensured that he has maintained a strike rate to make him the envy of his competitors.
Bill Wilde is hard working, ambitious, and dedicated with a clear vision for Wilde Racing to be the leading strike rate training stable in Victoria.
Symon Wilde
Symon's passion for horses began in his teen years where he took it upon himself to develop a complete understanding of horses.
At the completion of his schooling years, Symon sought to gain experience and pursued work alongside some of the world’s top trainers.
Symon left Australian shores in 1998 to offer his services in England with Lord William Huntingdon and Nicky Henderson, with the former being Queen Elizabeth II’s official trainer.
After a successful two year stint, Symon returned to Australia where he gained employment at Lindsay Park under the guidance of Peter Hayes and Tony McEvoy.
Again, after a two year stint, Symon left Lindsay Park for the USA where he learnt valuable skills under Laura de Seroux, a trainer who has won the world renowned Breeders Cup with 2002 American horse of the year, Azeri.
At the completion of his USA stint, Symon returned to the family’s stable in 2003, where he has progressed from stable hand to his current title of Joint Trainer after obtaining obtained his Trainers Licence in September 2008.

Our Theory
We have been able to achieve our successes by applying the quality rather than quantity theory with having only 20 horses in work and the ability to place horses in ideally suited races.
We would like to maintain and extend this upward surge in the Victorian Racing Industry by continuing to attract new owners, as we love to share the excitement that only thoroughbred racing can provide.
Our History
Wilde Racing has now proven themselves to be one of Victoria's finest thoroughbred horse stables who continue to produce outstanding results.
The biggest surprise is that Wilde Racing has achieved all this success even though they have never bought a horse worth more than $30,000.
Our Stables
Wilde Racing Stables provide accommodation and training environment for 20 horses. September 2009 the stables began its own pre-training facility at the Terang Racecourse and spelling property very close to its home stables.
Our Philosophy
Much of the stable's success is attributed to being able to prepare horses in this relaxed country seaside environment and in a one-on-one capacity.
We believe that being able to offer this gives our horses a great advantage at being competitive at the highest level.
